Joanne became interested in organic agriculture while studying agroecology at the University of Manitoba. Since then, she has worked in research and extension related to ecological and organic field crop production, mainly in the Natural Systems Agriculture lab at the University of Manitoba. She co-authored the Organic Field Crop Handbook, 3rd edition, and joined TCOG as co-editor in 2016. She lives in Winnipeg with her husband and two children.
