COTA and COG are very proud to once-again be coordinating Organic Week, from September 22-29, 2012. With Organic Week comes Parliament Day, one of the year’s highlights for the organic sector in Canada, when leaders and representatives of the organic value-chain gather in Ottawa to raise awareness of the organic sector at Parliament as well as celebrate all of our recent accomplishments.
This year, Parliament Day will take place on Tuesday, September 25th
— perfectly timed after Expo East in Baltimore and CHFA East
in Toronto (where we’ll be kicking off OWeek!) — so make sure your travel plans bring you to Ottawa this September.
Parliament Day activities kick off with a morning conference at the Chateau Laurier hotel. We are excited to announce that this year one of our keynote speakers will be Michael Curry from Investeco. Curry has served as Vice Chair of the board of Organic Meadow and is active in a number of other businesses and community groups. As part of the management team at Investeco, Curry focusses on identifying and analyzing new capital investment opportunities, with a particular focus on organic businesses. Stay tuned: other speakers will be announced later this summer.
From the morning conference, Parliament Day then moves onto the Hill, where registrants have an opportunity to meet with MPs, Senators and senior officials active on the agriculture file. In addition to this advocacy work, attendees can choose to take in “Question Period” at the House of Commons and meetings of the Standing Committee on Agriculture (schedule allowing).
The day is capped off with our popular Organic Reception. The Organic Reception will be hosted by Senator Carolyn Stewart Olsen in the Senate’s Commerce Room in the Parliament Buildings. As always, we will once again feature some of Canada’s finest organic food and drink. Don’t miss this unique opportunity for members of the Canadian organic sector to interact with Parliamentarians and their staff, and raise issues important to the organic sector in Canada.
Remember to save the Date! This September 25, for one of the highlights of Organic Week: Parliament Day 2012.
